Dr. Malik lives in a beautiful Victorian terrace in Cambridge. The house has plenty of period charm, however the timber sash windows on the front of the house had become worn, draughty and being single-glazed offered nothing in the way of protection from traffic noise. The front door, too, was failing to provide the necessary security and energy efficiency.

She wished to maintain the historic charm of her home, while enhancing it with the comfort and security afforded by modern double-glazing. Following a family recommendation, she decided to reach out to Elglaze.

“We had Elglaze recommended to us by a family member” explains Dr. Malik, “so they came very highly recommended by someone that we trusted. So we went for them first off. And when Wayne the sales rep came over, he was incredibly helpful in terms of explaining the windows and the process of fitting, but then also giving us a quote on the spot that we thought was incredibly reasonable. So that was the deciding factor for us.”

The installation

Elglaze installed uPVC Victorian sliding sash windows which have help to preserve the character of the house looking, as they do, almost identical to timber frames. This has greatly improved not only the visual appeal and the energy efficiency of the property, but has also provided much needed sound insulation from the busy street outside.

Dr. Malik explains, “It is quite a busy street and the difference between the windows now and the ones we used to have in terms of being able to sit in our living room and relax has been such a huge difference. There’s still a little bit of noise from the traffic, of course, but it’s vastly, vastly reduced. So that’s been wonderful”

A new composite door

In addition to the windows, a new front door was also required. Dr. Malik opted for an Azure Blue composite door finished with door furniture in black. It’s a stunning addition to the property. It adds character but most importantly helps keep out the noise and cold and adds an increased level of security to the property.

Reflecting on her experience with Elglaze, Dr. Malik says “The installation was really easy. We weren’t quite sure what to expect because we had never had windows replaced before, but the team were super quick, really neat and efficient. So it was a really, really easy and straightforward process.”
